Lower Cholesterol Foods That Are Healthy Delicious And Nutritious There are so many different foods that most people don’t know which ones are good for lowering cholesterol and which ones don’t affect it at all. The next meal, which is lunch, can be a little trickier because most people like to eat a quick meal which usually translates to either fast food or something out of a vending machine. The best way to avoid the fast food or vending machine temptation is to pack your own lunch. You can bring healthy foods like a salad with a tuna or salmon snack pack and a fruit like an apple. Nuts like almonds or walnuts are good to snack on throughout the day. These are excellent food choices that are known to lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol levels.
If you don’t have time to pack a lunch or you just like to get out of the office and you want to eat out just make sure to choose healthy. For instance, try baked foods such as chicken and definitely avoid anything fried. A lot of fast food places now have a healthy menu to choose from so make sure and check it out.
For the last meal of the day, you could include a variety of lower cholesterol foods. Baked foods such as chicken or fish are your best choices but you can also include ground turkey in your recipes. I use ground turkey in chili, meatloaf and stews. If you don’t tell anybody that you used turkey instead of ground beef, I would guarantee that they wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. So far no one has guessed that is what I use and I’ve been using ground turkey for several years.
Along with the main part of the meal a side of fresh steamed vegetables or a salad with an olive oil base dressing are an excellent choice of healthy and delicious foods. Legumes, which are high in soluble fiber, make a delicious side dish, can be used in chili, stews or even as a complement to a salad. Garlic is also known to lower cholesterol so be sure and use it in your recipes. Studies have also shown that red wine can lower cholesterol so go ahead and have a glass to complement your meal.
